The Rev. Mark F. Allen, Rector

Mark+ has been rector of St. Martin’s since February 2004. Prior to coming to St. Martin’s he served as rector of St. Nicholas, Paradise CA for 13 years. Mark and Nancy, his wife of over 35 years are discovering the wonders of parenting four adult children and one soon to be an adult teenager. Mark’s passions are his family (including a golden doodle “Penny” and a rag doll cat “Theo”), movies, music, sports, preaching, pastoring and leading people deeper on their spiritual journey. One of Mark’s life slogans is: “Take your faith seriously but don’t take yourself seriously.”



The Rev. Arthur R. Lillicropp, M.Div., M.S.

Arthur (Art) joined St. Martin’s in the Fall of 2009. Art holds a Masters of Science in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola College as well as a Masters of Divinity from the General Theological Seminary in New York City.

Art also serves as Manager of Spiritual Care at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in South Sacramento. Art has provided pastoral care services for various Medical Centers including Shasta Regional Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital Health System and the Washington Hospital Center in DC. Previous rector appointments include churches in the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland and New York. He has been ordained for 34 years, lives in East Sacramento with his faithful companion and spiritual guide, Labrador Barnabas! He loves music, gardening, hiking and traveling to visit his family in North Carolina, Maine and Virginia.





The Venerable Ernie L. Lewis, Archdeacon

The Venerable Ernest L Lewis, M.D., (Deacon Ernie) is a native of Fresno and a graduate of California State University, Fresno. He received his medical degree from Washington University in Saint Louis. He is Professor Emeritus of Clinical Urology and Associate Dean Emeritus of Medical Education at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine.

Following retirement, he attended the Episcopal School for Deacons in Berkeley and returned to St. Martin’s after ordination in 2002. Since 2006 he has served as Archdeacon for Deacons for the Diocese of Northern California and is active on the Commission on Ministry and the Total Ministry Planning Group of the diocese. He has been married to Mary Ann since 1964. Their family includes four grown children and nine grandchildren. Ernie considers himself primarily a teacher. His hobbies include gardening, photography, cooking, grandchildren, and books, books, books!





The Rev. Sarah Motley, Priest Associate

Sarah was born and raised in Davis, and was baptized at St. Martin’s in 1969 when a Junior at Davis High School.   Ordained in 1979 in the Diocese of Massachusetts, she has held a range of positions, most recently in college chaplaincy and Hispanic ministry.  She has had extensive involvement in ecumenical and interfaith groups in the region, as Chair of Care for God’s Creation and as a founder of Celebration of Abraham.   She and her family will be on sabbatical in Geneva, Switzerland, beginning Fall 2008.

Gerard is our music director, choral conductor, organist and keyboard accompanist for the music at all our services. Gerard has a Masters Degree in Choral Conducting from DePaul University, Chicago. Gerard is former Assistant Organist at St. James Episcopal Cathedral, Chicago; Trinity Episcopal Church, Chicago and St. Simon’s Episcopal Church, Arlington Heights. Before coming to St. Martin’s, Gerard was interim organist and choir master at Christ Church, Alameda. “I believe music in the church should be both beautiful and singable,” says Gerard. “I invite you to join one of our many singing groups.”





CJ Winger, Interim Youth Ministry Coordinator

CJ joined the staff in January 2009. The son of an episcopal priest, CJ spent his youth involved in a variety of youth programs including his Church youth group, The Diocesan Executive Youth Council, numerous SEARCH events, and countless Diocesan events. Since graduating High School, CJ has volunteered with the youth group at St. David’s Anglican Parish in Perth, Australia and has served two years on the Sacramento Area Campus Ministry Board. Currently CJ is working at Sierra College in Rocklin on his Bachelors of Science in Psychology and will attend UC Davis in the Fall. CJ also enjoys playing the guitar, drinking lattes and reading.

Jan Sanders, a native of Liverpool, England, provides a welcoming presence in the office of St. Martin’s. In addition to her administrative gifts and calm demeanor, Jan makes a mean batch of scones with clotted cream.
