Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is on February 17. Things will look a bit different this year as we gather virtually to mark the beginning of our Lenten season. We hope you will find the following events to be sober reminders of our own mortality, as well as hopeful outlooks on what is to come.

From 7am to 8am on Wednesday morning, ashes-to-go will be available as take-home packets. From 12pm to 1pm, we will host a self-guided prayer tour throughout the campus. You can spend as much or as little time as you need to visit the five stations in prayer and contemplation. One of the stations will include take-home packets of ashes – you may go straight to this station for pickup even if you are unable to spend time at the other stations. (The stations will also be available on Saturday, February 20 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm for anyone who missed them or would like to revisit them.)

Our Ash Wednesday observances will conclude with a service at 7pm, hosted on Zoom. The Zoom meeting details are below. Note that this is the same Zoom Room we use for our Sunday Services.

We hope to see you as we come together in repentance and humble observation of the Lenten journey.

Living Compass Class – Wednesday Mornings

Living Compass is once again offering their Lenten reflection series called Living Well Through Lent. This year’s focus is on listening. Helen Campbell will be facilitating a discussion group on Wednesdays during Lent, starting on Ash Wednesday, from 10:30 AM to approximately 11:45 via Zoom. This is a drop-in class (there is no need to register; just
watch for the Zoom link in the eblasts and church bulletin).

Living Well Through Lent is available as a PDF here,
or you can contact Helen at Formation@churchofstmartin.org and she can email it to you as an email attachment. Living Compass is also offering daily email readings and a Facebook discussion group
online. In addition, you can get the booklet at Amazon to download to your Kindle for 99 cents.

The Way of Love Class – Wednesday Nights

Our rector, Pamela Dolan, will host a virtual Wednesday night class for a period of 8 weeks, beginning February 24 and ending on April 14. Discussions will center around the Episcopal Church’s seven-fold “Way of Love” practices: Turn, Learn, Pray, Worship, Bless, Go, and Rest. Read Bishop Curry’s invitation to practicing the Way of Love here.

The class will run from 7pm to 8:25pm, and then those who choose to can switch over to Compline at 8:30, a brief and lovely service that helps us to end our day in peace.

Children and Family Ministry

FAMILY SERVICE
There will be a Family Outdoor Worship service on March 13th at 2:00 pm.  The Family Outdoor Worship service is a COVID safe worship service for our families, particularly those with younger children.  Together we engage in ritual, a story from the Bible, as well as some time to explore that story within your family household.  This is a chance for the children of the parish to see one another and continue to feel connected to our church community.  We gather outside, everyone brings a picnic blanket which are then spaced 7-8 feet apart, and everyone is required to wear masks during the worship.  Children must be accompanied by their parent(s).

LENT PACKETS
Families with younger children will receive an emailed packet of at-home activities they can do during Lent.  It will include videos, prompts for conversation, and easy at-home crafts and activities.  The packet is also available for download below.

Families with teenagers will also receive their own packet of at-home activities they can do during Lent.  It will include more guided prompts for conversation and a few activities suited for teens. The packet is also available for download below.

GODLY PLAY
Godly Play will continue on its regular schedule of first and third Sundays. Throughout Lent, these days will be: February 21, March 7, and March 21.

TYGMOS

TYGMOS will continue meeting on its regular schedule of second and fourth Sundays. Throughout Lent, these days will be: February 28th, March 14, and March 28.

Questions about Children and Family Ministry can be directed to our curate, Alex Leach, at alex@churchofstmartin.org. Questions about TYGMOS can also be directed to youth group leaders Robert Fuller-Lynch and Michelle Avila.
