Message from the Rev. Pamela from November 1, 2024:

Dear Ones,

Bishop Megan has asked churches to be open on Election Day (Tuesday, November 5) for times of prayer and contemplation. We cannot open the building of the church, as work on the stained-glass ceiling window continues, but we want to make sure you know that there is always room for you here at St. Martin’s to pray and find spiritual sustenance.

Specifically, the labyrinth, the meditation garden, and our prayer chalkboard are available 24/7. These outdoor areas are lovely at this time of year! In addition, we’ll set up an area for prayer in Room 8 from 9am to noon and again from 2pm to 5pm. As I hope you already know, we also have prayer opportunities on Wednesday, the day after Election Day. Our usual 8:30am Morning Prayer will include a litany for our nation. Centering Prayer will meet at its normal time, 5pm. And Evening Prayer will take place at 5:30pm under the redwoods, followed by a candlelight labyrinth walk that will end at 7pm.

Don’t forget to take care of your body and soul during stressful times. For me that means remembering to breathe, to get outside, to stay hydrated, and to play with my dog, Poppy! If you are looking for a prayer to get you through the day, I recommend this one, written by the Rt. Rev. Deon K. Johnson, Bishop of Missouri:

Holy One,
Today I will choose hope over despair, because to hope is to believe in a different future.
Today I will choose curiosity over condemnation, because to be curious is to be open to possibilities.
Today I will choose love over fear, because to love is to dance in the world with joy.
Holy One, teach me to choose well today.
Amen.

Blessings,
Pamela+
