This Sunday! St. Martin’s Inaugural Garden Tour
Spring is in the air! Join us for our inaugural Garden Tour from 1- 4pm on Sunday, April 19. Five parishioners will open their gardens to the St. Martin’s community. You are welcome to visit some or all of them in any order for self-guided tours. We’ll have maps and descriptions of the gardens (all are in Davis) on Sunday, April 19 at church, or you can write the office (info@churchofstmartin.org) anytime between today and Sunday at 12pm to ask for the map. Many of the gardens are wheelchair and walker accessible; we indicate which are and are not accessible on the map.

Committal Service for Russell St. Clair after the 10am service: Russell St. Clair’s ashes will be inurned in the columbarium in a short Committal service immediately following the 10am service. Russell’s family invites anyone who knew Russell to be there. We will have an extended coffee hour outdoors after the Committal. Gracious God, we pray to you for Russell, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest.

Music Notes for 10am Sunday Service: Our April 19 Offertory anthem is a setting of George Herbert’s “I Got Me Flowers,” by Daniel Burton (b1944). A native of Chicago, Burton served as Composer in Residence and Organist of the First United Methodist Church of San Diego from 1973-2003. The text comes from the poem “Easter,” by mystical poet George Herbert (1593-1633), in which the customs and images of spring become signs of both Christ’s resurrection and the soul’s awakening to new life in Christ. Jeffrey will include four pieces by Canadian composer Healy Willan (1880-1968). All four are based on hymn tunes. Find the full music notes on our website.

Opportunities for Connection with our Davis and Diocesan Neighbors
DIA (Davis Interfaith Association) Monthly Meeting, Monday, April 20, 6:30pm: Join DIA for their April meeting at Davis United Methodist Church. The meeting will include a light supper and a panel discussion of faith leaders on the topic “Faith, Authority, and Civil Disobedience.” Panelists will discuss questions such as when civil disobedience is appropriate and how we address the tension between respect for authority and disagreeing with authority.

I Will, With God’s Help: A Journey Toward Racial Healing and Justice, May 9, St. Martin’s, 9:30 – 4:30pm: This in-person and online workshop was specially developed for the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California by the Commission for Intercultural Ministries. An important part of the day is discussion among table groups, which occurs after each presentation. $25 in person—includes lunch and light breakfast. $10.00 online. Register by Friday, May 1. This is one of two in-person workshops this year. Workshop will be cancelled if registrations do not reach 20 by May 1. Rev. Pamela encourages all Vestry members and ministry leaders to take this important workshop. Scout Sunday and Celebration of Earth Day, Sunday, April 26
Scout Troop 466 will be joining us for worship at the 10am service on August 26 and demonstrating some of their activities and skills on the Great Lawn after church. We have sponsored a troop here at St. Martin’s for many years, and it’s good to renew and affirm that relationship regularly. In honor of Earth Day, we’ll have a special creation-themed sermon and a fun, family-friendly Fourth Sunday.

Creation Care Forum, 12pm: After the 10am service, Rev. Pamela will offer a 1-hour forum on Creation Care at St. Martin’s and beyond. The forum will include a light lunch and cover what is happening at the diocesan and church-wide levels and how we can talk about creation care in ways that are loving, liberating, and life-giving, rather than leading to despair and disconnection. We’d appreciate RSVPs to the office (so we know how much food to provide) by Friday, April 24.

Twilight Labyrinth Walk and Interfaith Candlelight Vigil, 7:30pm: Come walk the labyrinth and join an interfaith candlelight vigil where we will pray for peace—peace among nations, peace in our hearts, and peace with the Earth.

Serve on a St. Martin’s Committee
We are seeking parishioners for two important committees. We need an at-large committee member for the Homann Music Committee. This committee works directly with the rector, meets once or twice per year, and focuses on how the Homann music funds are spent. No musical expertise is required although regular attendance at the 10am service is a plus. We ask for a one-year commitment, with the possibility of serving longer.

We also need two at-large members for the Budget & Finance Committee. Serving involves one hour per month, plus a small amount of time preparing for the meeting. We would train you to read our financial statements; no accounting experience is needed. Familiarity with reading financial documents would be helpful, and you’d be serving alongside the rector, senior warden, and treasurer. We ask for a one-year commitment, with the option to serve longer.

Upcoming Outdoor Opportunities – Great for Earth Day!
LGBTQ+ Hike: Join St. Martin’s and other members of Yolo Interfaith Queer Alliance on Saturday, April 25 from 10-11am for a short hike in Davis, followed by a picnic lunch. This gathering is open to LGBTQ+ folks and allies and is intended as a welcoming space to connect in community outdoors. The walk will be relaxed, with opportunities for reflection as we explore finding spirituality in nature. Bring your own food and anything you would like for a comfortable picnic. Parking at the trailhead, near (limited) picnic tables. Feel free to bring a friend. Please contact the church office for starting point of hike.

Davis Progressive Youth Collective Earth Day Service Project, April 25, 12:15-3pm: Students grades 6 – 12 are invited to help the Yolo Basin Foundation with their annual Duck Days Festival. You’ll help at an arts and crafts table and help pick up trash. Bring a friend and your family. More information here.
