This Sunday, August 2 – Two Morning Services, Adult Forum, Recital
Two Sunday Morning Services: Starting this Sunday, we return to our regular schedule of two Sunday morning services, 8am (Rite I, in-person) and 10am (Rite II, in-person and online).

Adult Forum on Science and Faith, 11:30am: You won’t want to miss parishioner Ben Eustis-Guthrie’s talk after the 10am service entitled “Why Pythagoras Was Right.” In Ben’s words, “The presentation adapts my favorite general education physics lessons about profound connections between music theory, quantum mechanics, and the periodic table. I’ll make connections to history and philosophy and to how our instincts for seeking beauty in the universe are vindicated by science. I’ll continue with what I believe this means for faith.” Ben is a Physics PhD candidate who will be finishing his studies soon and moving to New York City to teach at a Christian high school. Meet in the church.

When We Talk about Love: A Mini-Recital for Voice and Piano, 4pm: Parishioners Pierre Gianferrara, Sarah Eustis-Guthrie, and Mark Grote, will present a brief recital of art songs for soprano, baritone, and piano featuring works by Fauré, Mendelssohn, and others. Admission is free. Join them in the church. All are welcome!

Reminder to Wear Name Tags at Church
We have a new clergy member and quite a few visitors during the summer. It will help them learn our names if we all make an effort to wear our nametags.

First Official “Green Team” Meeting – August 6, 6pm on Zoom
Come join the new “Green Team,” as the group continues the work formerly done by our Care for God’s Creation Committee and others. At this first meeting, we’ll explore new materials to help us with “Becoming a Community of Creation” and to map out the path ahead. If you would like to be part of this ministry but can’t attend in August, contact Junior Warden Elise Keddie or the church office. You can get the meeting Zoom link from the church office.

Sunday, August 9, Taizé Worship, 6:30pm: Taizé worship focuses on praying through song and silence. Join us in the church for a service that lasts about 30 minutes.

Sunday, August 16, Bible Study: Rev. Pamela will explore the story of Joseph after the 10am service in Room 6/7. Join her for an hour of learning, wondering, and discussion.

Pop-Up Webinar: “Supreme Court Decisions”
Tune in on Thursday, August 6 at 11am Pacific to this timely webinar, hosted by The Episcopal Church Public Policy, Partnership, and Witness Team, to learn about recent Supreme Court decisions and their implications, particularly those related to immigration.  Panelists will discuss what happened during this Supreme Court term, key takeaways, and how Episcopalians can continue to advocate for justice, especially in solidarity with immigrant neighbors. For more information and to register, click here.

In Loving Memory
With sadness, we inform you that the Rt. Rev. Jerry A. Lamb, former bishop of the Diocese of Northern California, passed away last week. Bishop Lamb served our diocese from 1992 to 2006. He later served as assistant bishop of Nevada (2007) and provisional bishop of the Diocese of San Joaquin (2008 – 2011). Services will be held at Trinity Cathedral in Sacramento on Thursday, August 27 at 2pm (in-person and livestreamed). Please keep Bishop Lamb’s family in your prayers. Loving God, we pray for those we love but see no longer. Grant them your peace; let light perpetual shine upon them.

Clergy Office Hours
Rev. Pamela holds office hours on Tuesday afternoons at 4pm. Her next office hours will be on Tuesday, August 4 from 4-5:15pm. If you’d like to see Pamela at a different time, you can contact her at (pamela@churchofstmartin.org). Rev.
