St. Martin’s News for the Week of Sunday, 10/11/2026

Belfry Sunday, Youth Liturgy of the Word, Taizé Worship, October 11
Belfry Sunday!: This Sunday, we celebrate our partnership with the Belfry Lutheran Episcopal Campus Ministry and welcome the Rev. Dr. Portia Hopkins, chaplain at the Belfry, as our preacher at both services. After the 10am service, Rev. Portia will lead an adult forum in the parish hall on how we build a house of welcome.

Youth Liturgy of the Word: Junior high and high school students meet with Rev. Debbie in Room 8 during the first half of the 10am service to explore what the Gospel lesson is saying to them. The youth return to church for Communion.

Godly Play: Children TK through 6th grade meet during the 10am service in Room 4. Godly Play meets every Sunday except the Fourth Sunday of the month.

Music Notes for 10am Service: Sunday’s Song of Praise, “All are Welcome!” (verses 1&3) by Marty Haugen, celebrates the theme of our Stewardship campaign as well as the Gospel reading of the day. Our Processional hymn, “I come with joy to meet my Lord,” beautifully expresses the gladness and unity of the Eucharistic feast. This hymn, together with two beloved Communion hymns, offer images of gathering and sharing bread in unity, offering a gentle connection to Jesus’ parable of the wedding banquet. You will find the complete music notes on our website.

Taizé Worship, 6:30pm in the Church: Taizé worship focuses on praying through song and silence. Join us in the church for a service that lasts about 30 minutes.

Stewardship at St. Martin’s: “Build a House of Welcome”
Stewardship Packets and Pledging: Packets went out in the mail last week to those who did not pick them up at church last Sunday. The materials explain St. Martin’s priorities for 2026 and how to make your financial contribution. If you did not receive a packet, you can pick one up at church on any upcoming Sunday or contact the church office to have it sent to you via U.S. mail or email. Pledging helps us immensely in planning the 2027 budget. We are grateful for all pledges and offerings!

How to Submit Your Pledge: You can put your pledge card in the offering plate at church or mail or deliver it to the church office. You can also pledge via email by writing to our special pledge email address: stewardship@churchofstmartin.org. Please pledge by November 8.

Adult Formation
Monday, October 12, 5pm PT on Zoom, “Love God, Love God’s World”: Join other members of Episcopal eco-region networks for a monthly Zoom class using The Episcopal Church’s “Love God, Love God’s World” creation care curriculum. This film- and readings-based curriculum looks at many facets of environmental stewardship and justice and is designed for people new to the topic of creation care as well as those already active. After the Oct. 12 session, the class will meet on the third Monday of each month for nine total sessions. Find more information and registration here.

Tuesday, October 13, 7pm In-person, “Reflecting Images: Christianity and AI in Conversation”: It’s not too late to join facilitator Dr. Mae Barnes and others in the church for the third session of this important and timely discussion series. The discussion this week will focus on Chapters 3 & 4 of Magnifica Humanitas, released by Pope Leo XIV and available online.

Send Names for All Saints’ Day Necrology
We will celebrate All Saints’ Day on November 1. We invite you to submit names of those who have died since November 1, 2025 to be included in our All Saints’ Day Necrology. We will read this list of departed loved ones at both All Saints’ Day services. Please submit names no later than Tuesday, October 27 to the church office (530-756-0444; info@churchofstmartin.org).

Joining the Broader Community – Getting the Vote Out and “NO KINGS”
Community Sing, Sunday, October 11 in St. Martin’s Parish Hall, 7-8pm: The Yolo branch of Singing Resistance is holding a community sing on Sunday to practice and get ready for singing at the NO KINGS event on October 17 in Davis. Singing Resistance started in Minneapolis; participants sing together in churches and in other locations to create community through song. Their current focus is “Vote Early,” and there are new election-protection songs to learn. All are invited; no singing experience required.

Yolo Indivisible, NO KINGS Vote Early Event, Saturday, October 17, 2-4pm: Join marches from four directions, all leading to the plaza on Third and G Streets. At the plaza, participants will find voter support and education, opportunities for action, “future voter” kid activities, music, and more. Celebrate the power, pride and joy of voting. Marches (with No Kings protest signs, if you wish) will start at 2pm. Find starting locations and more information here. The Episcopal Church considers voting “an act of love” as well as an act of Christian stewardship. See the Episcopal Church website for more information on the work of the Episcopal Church on voter engagement.
