Rector and Vestry on Retreat This Weekend
The rector and vestry are on retreat this weekend, from Friday evening through Sunday. Our operations director, treasurer, and deacon are joining them. Please keep them in your prayers as they begin to discern the important work they will be doing this year.
Guest Preacher and Adult Forum Sunday, February 23
This Sunday, February 23, The Rev. James Richardson will be our guest preacher at both services. Rev. Jim is the former Interim Dean of Trinity Cathedral in Sacramento, where he now serves as an associate. Before he was a priest, he was a senior writer with The Sacramento Bee. After the 10am service, Rev. Jim will hold an adult forum in Room 6/7 on his most recent book, The Abolitionist’s Journal: Memories of an American Antislavery Family. The book is about his nineteenth century antislavery Methodist ancestors and how their story has shaped his story.
Ash Wednesday, March 5
We will have Ash Wednesday services, including Holy Eucharist and imposition of ashes, at 7am and 7pm in the church. The 7am service is shorter and does not include a sermon so that those who work or have other commitments will be done before 8am. Below is a list that includes the above and several other Ash Wednesday options.
7am Holy Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes (St. Martin’s in the church)
11am-1pm Ashes to Go offered on the UC Davis campus by the Belfry and friends

Memorial Service for Corrinne Bressler, March 7
A memorial service for long-time parishioner Corrinne Bressler will be held on Friday, March 7 at 11am with a reception following in the parish hall. Please keep her family in your prayers.
Save the Dates for Lenten Opportunities
Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent, is on March 5. Below are two Lenten opportunities you may wish to consider participating in.
Sunday Book Discussion
On Sundays during Lent after the 10am service, Rev. Pamela will be hosting a discussion of How We Learn to Be Brave: Decisive Moments in Life and Faith, the inspiring book by the Rt. Rev. Marianne Edgar Budde. Rev. Pamela has listened to the audiobook in preparation for leading the discussion and is sure it will lead to excellent, rich conversations. Begins March 9.
“Living Well Through Lent” Zoom Discussion Group, Mondays 1 – 2:30pm
Helen Campbell will be facilitating a Monday Zoom group during Lent to discuss “Living Well through Lent 2025,” a Living Compass publication. This year’s theme is “Cultivating the Fruits of the Spirit.” The discussion group will meet for five Mondays: March 10, 17, 31, April 7, 14 (no group on March 24). Please let the church office know if you are interested so that Helen knows how many to expect and to receive the Zoom link. Booklets will be available in the narthex or the church office or can be downloaded in English or Spanish by going to the Living Compass website: https://www.livingcompass.org/lent. Begins March 10.
Wednesday Night Soup Suppers and Holden Evening Prayer at Davis Lutheran
On Wednesday nights during Lent, a series of soup suppers will be held at Davis Lutheran Church and are sponsored by Davis Lutheran along with St. Martin’s, Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, Davis United Methodist Church, and the Belfry. These gatherings will focus on building relationships over a simple meal, followed by a short service of Holden Evening Prayer. Holden Evening Prayer was written by Marty Haugen at Holden Village in the 1980s. It is a simple 20-minute vespers service in a folk style, usually accompanied by instruments. Begins March 12.
