Our Christ Walk took us 2500 miles and though we didn’t make it to the National Cathedral in Washington D.C., we did make it to Pittsburgh PA.
Pittsburgh is a city of about 300,00 people. It’s located in the southeast corner of the state and at the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers. When Pittsburgh gets a lot of rain the point where the three rivers converge often floods. Pittsburgh is know as “The Steel City” and is part of the ”Rust Belt” though it is rapidly shedding this image.
Pittsburgh saw it’s steel and electronic industries crash in the 80’s but the city has seen a boom in its economy with its focus on healthcare, medicine, and robotics. Pittsburgh today is a vibrant city and well worth a visit. Be sure to go up the Duquesne Incline to Mount Washington for the spectacular view. And you haven’t been to Pittsburgh until you’ve had a Primanti sandwich with its load of meat, slaw tomato and french fries all on fresh Italian bread. (Pittsburghers love french fries on everything so doesn’t be surprised if your salad arrives with french fries on top of it.) The Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh is seated here and covers 11 counties in western PA. The Rt. Rev. Dorsey W. M. McConnell is the bishop and the cathedral is also named Trinity Cathedral.
