“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…”

St. Martin’s has a long history of active engagement with food support efforts in Davis.

Davis Community Meals and Housing (DCMH) was founded by members of St. Martin’s and has been offering meals on our campus since 1990. Today, DCMH offers meals on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and a Saturday lunch each week.

St. Martin’s provides space to the Short Term Emergency Aid Committee (STEAC) for their food pantry. STEAC distributes both perishable and non-perishable food items throughout the community to those in need.

A number of parishioners, led by Ann Liu and Care for God’s Creation, are volunteering at Grace Garden, a sustainable garden producing vegetables, fruits and flowers. The goal of Grace Garden is to provide fresh produce to help feed the hungry and educate the community about gardening, the environment and sustainable practices through teaching and outreach.

We also collect non-perishable food at each of our services. Called “Every Person…Every Week…One Item of Food,” this program allows parishioners to provide regular, ongoing support to three of our local food pantries: Dixon Family Services, the UCD Pantry and the STEAC Food Closet.

Want to get involved? If you have 2 hours per month to give, you could

  • Serve as a St. Martin’s meal representative for a DCMH meal—we especially need folks to join our Saturday lunch team
  • Deliver the weekly collection to one of three local food pantries
  • Get involved with Grace Garden
  • Serve as a Neighborhood Coordinator for food collection for STEAC (https://steacfoodproject.org/69-2/)

If you are interested in any of these activities or want to get more involved with outreach at St. Martin’s, please email Diana Glick (email address in the church directory or contact church office to get in touch).
