Message from the Very Rev. Pamela from February 13, 2026:

Dear Ones,

“How do we live compassionately in a time of violence and despair? What can we do with our private disappointments and the anger we feel in such an unjust world?”

These questions are central to the book The Tears of Things: Prophetic Wisdom for an Age of Outrage, by Richard Rohr. They are why I chose this book as our Lenten book study. Although I have read it myself and am listening to a chapter-by-chapter podcast about it, I really want to be in conversation with people who care about such questions, as I know many of you do.

I have heard from several people that they would like to participate in our book study on Tuesday nights, but do not think they can be here in person. For the first session, on March 24 at 6:30pm, we’ll try a hybrid setup; we’ll have the link available to you next week. Please try to read the introduction and Chapter One in advance, or listen to the corresponding podcast episodes.

I’d still love to hear from anyone who is planning to attend, and whether that will be live or online, and to answer any questions you might have. And definitely let me know if you want to join me at the DCMH meal at 5:45pm that night. I hate trying new things alone! A new pattern of being with, rather than just doing for, seems to me to be of the utmost importance in the world today, and this is just one tiny step in that direction.

I hope to see you all on Sunday for our Pancake Breakfast, and again on Wednesday for one of our several Ash Wednesday services. Information about all of that and more is below.

Blessings,

Pamela+
