This Week at St. Martin’s – Season of Creation Begins
This Sunday marks the first Sunday in the Season of Creation. The World Council of Churches was instrumental in making this a season extending from September 1 until October 4, the feast day of St. Francis. The season was endorsed by our General Convention and is a time for us to come together to care for our common home. During the month, we are using liturgical resources from Season of Creation, A Celebration Guide for Episcopal Parishes (Perennial Edition, 2025) and from Season of Creation 2026, Living Water, which are resources from the ecumenical Season of Creation. At St. Martin’s look for special prayers, music, and symbolism that reflect the season.

Inwardly Digest Online Confirmation & Enquirers’ Class – Wednesdays, 7-8:30pm on Zoom
The first class of a 7-week online course began last week and meets through October 14. Participants are learning about and discussing the Book of Common Prayer, the Liturgical Calendar, the Eucharist and more by reading selections from Inwardly Digest: The Prayer Book as a Guide to a Spiritual Life by Derek Olsen. The course is appropriate whether you’re new to the Episcopal Church or have been here long-term. We’ve only had one class so far, so if you’re interested in taking the course, talk to Rev. Pamela, Rev. Maggie, or contact the church office.

Parish Garden and Work Day – Saturday, September 12, 8-10:30am
Help Buildings & Grounds, other parishioners, and the Scouts take care of our beautiful grounds and make them look even better during this Season of Creation. We’ll be weeding, trimming, sweeping, moving mulch, and more. We have a few indoor jobs too. We have tools at church, but if you have some at home, please bring them.

Help Welcome UC Davis Students and Their Families, September 14-18
Want to help welcome UC Davis students and their parents who will be using our parking lot during move-in week? We are still seeking volunteers to staff a welcome table (in one to two-hour shifts) on September 14-18 from 9am – 1pm. We’ll have snacks, water, St. Martin’s stickers, information about our labyrinth, and brochures about the church to give out. If you can help any of those days, please let the office know soon (info@churchofstmartin.org; 530-756-0444).

Wingfield Deanery Convocation at St. Martin’s – September 19, 9:30am
You are invited and encouraged to attend the in-person gathering of Wingfield Deanery clergy, delegates, and friends of the 2026 Convocation, our annual pre-Convention event. We will gather at 9:30am for snacks and coffee; then the portion on Convention business will be from 10am-12pm. After that, we will serve a catered lunch and share conversation and learnings as a deanery. Please register by September 16 to let us know that you’re coming and if you’ll be staying for lunch. All are welcome to gather with members from other churches in our Deanery as we seek to become a more connected, collaborative, and faithful part of the Episcopal presence in Northern California.  

Educational Opportunities in the Broader Community
“Working Together to Protect Our Neighbors,” Thursday, September 10, 6-7:30pm, Veterans Memorial Center (203 East 14th St.): This community forum, hosted by the Davis Police Accountability Commission, will focus on what local law enforcement can—and cannot—do when federal immigration enforcement occurs in or near our community, and what can families do now to prepare and protect each other. The city of Davis police chief, an immigration attorney, and an independent police auditor will speak on local law enforcement, immigration enforcement, family preparedness, and community safety. Spanish interpretation will be provided.

NAMI Yolo Panel on Mental Health in Yolo County Jails, Wednesday, September 16, 6-8pm at St. Martin’s: Join NAMI Yolo for an important community conversation about mental health in Yolo County jails right here in our parish hall. The panelists will include a Yolo County public defender, the program manager at the jail, a representative from Health and Human Services, and a retired deputy D.A. Come to listen and ask questions about resources, processes, and challenges. Find more information about NAMI Yolo here.

Clergy Office Hours
Rev. Pamela holds office hours on Tuesdays, 4-5:15pm. Her next office hours will be on September 8. Rev. Maggie holds office hours on Mondays, 2-4pm. This coming Monday is a holiday. Church Office Closure
The church office will be closed on Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day. We return to our regular hours (M-F 9am-1pm) on September 8.
