This Sunday! Día de los Muertos, Guest Stewardship Speaker, Lunch, Music
Dia de los Muertos, Guest Speaker: We will celebrate Día de los Muertos at both services, with a traditional ofrenda (an altar), where you can place photos or mementos of loved ones who have passed away. The ofrenda will stay up through Sunday, November 1. We also welcome guest stewardship speaker, Lupita Arim-Law, Director of Formation at the Diocese of Northern California. The 10am service is a Fourth Sunday service where anyone can come up to sing the Offertory Anthem with the Pop-Up Choir.
Fiesta with Catered Lunch: After the 10am service, stay for a fiesta catered by Dos Coyotes with music by Mariachi UC Davis. Don’t forget to try a piece of pan dulce from Mercado Davis.
Music Notes for 10am Service: Our Pop-Up Choir anthem will be “Peter, Go Ring Them Bells,” an African American slave song, chosen primarily because it recalls departed loved ones. The song also very likely belongs to a category of slave songs designed to carry coded messages. You will find the complete music notes on our website.
Pizza Church, 5pm: Join us Sunday afternoon for Pizza Church, an intergenerational service with Holy Eucharist, followed by fellowship and pizza! We’ll meet out on the redwood deck by Rm 6/7, weather permitting, and learn about Día de los Muertos and the upcoming season.
Stewardship at St. Martin’s: “Build a House of Welcome”
Check out our stewardship progress on the poster in the narthex. You may also want to watch a short video on St. Martin’s 2027 ministry priorities. Pledging helps us immensely in planning the 2027 budget. We are grateful for all pledges and offerings!
How to Submit Your Pledge: You can put your pledge card in the offering plate at church or mail or deliver it to the church office. You can also pledge via e-mail by writing to our confidential pledge e-mail address: stewardship@churchofstmartin.
Calling All Bakers! Enter the Great St. Martin’s Bake Off
Enter an item in our Bake Off on Sunday, November 8! You can enter in one or more of the following categories: Kids’ Creation; Breakfast Casseroles; Breads & Muffins; Scones & Cookies; Pies & Cakes; or Gluten Free, Vegan, and/or Dairy Free. Sign up at either service this Sunday or send your name and category to the church office (info@churchofstmartin.org). We will all share in the treats after ONE 10am service that day. If you are able to help during the bake off, please sign up with Carole Hom.
OWL (Older, Wiser, Laity) Tea Wednesday, November 4, 2-4pm
All older, wiser laity and clergy are invited to a tea on November 4 at 2pm in Rooms 6/7. Come for fellowship and traditional tea with homemade sweet and savory snacks. RSVP by November 1 to the church office. We have 24 seats available to keep the event a little smaller than the previous tea.
Next Sunday, All Saints’ Day
We celebrate All Saints’ Day on November 1 at both services. We invite you to submit names of those who have died in the past 12 months to be included in the necrology. We will read this list of departed loved ones at both Sunday services. Submit names by Tuesday, October 27 to the church office (530-756-0444; info@churchofstmartin.org).

- St. Martin’s News 10/16/2026St. Martin’s News for the Week of Sunday, 10/18/2026 From the RectorDear Ones,I had hoped to write a short and sweet stewardship note this morning, but then I woke up to the terrible news about another school shooting, this one in Bend, Oregon. I am of course praying for all those involved, especially those who lost loved ones, and for the whole community. You don’t need me to belabor the depths of this tragedy, or to say yet again that gun violence has become an epidemic in our country. We will, again, wear orange stoles on Sunday to remind us…
