Music Notes for Sunday, May 3
Sunday’s music reflects our Gospel reading, in which Christ speaks words of comfort and guidance to his disciples. The anthem “Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled” by Bob Burroughs draws directly on this passage, wrapping the familiar reassuring text in a modern, intimate warmth. The Communion hymns continue this theme of Christ as the faithful guide and companion of believers. Find the full music notes here.
Join us for Coffee Hour after the 10am Service
In nice weather, we’re outside the parish hall, immediately after the service. We thank our weekly coffee makers, Tim Williams, Kimo Kimokeo, Tony Miller, and Bob Holm. And thanks to all of you who bring snack items to share!
Save the Dates for May Events
May 10, Rogation Sunday: In the Episcopal Church, Rogation Sunday is a time of prayer and intercession, traditionally involving processions around the parish boundaries and blessings for the land and its inhabitants. Before the 10am service, we’ll have a Rogation Procession around the grounds, where we’ll stop several times to bless the land.
May 17, “Knowing Jesus in a New Way” Bible Study after 10am Service: On the last Sunday before Pentecost, we’ll explore the shape and purpose of the various Easter season stories using a Godly Play format. This opportunity to explore key texts in our lectionary will continue monthly throughout the summer. Stay tuned for more details.
May 24, The Day of Pentecost: We’ll have ONE SERVICE only at 10am to celebrate Pentecost, a special feast day in the Church. Our service will be a Fourth Sunday service, meaning it will be more accessible to the youngest in our congregation. We’ll have readers in world languages, a baptism, and an all-parish BBQ after the service. We are still seeking readers in world languages. If you’d like to read several lines from the Acts of the Apostles lesson in a language other than English, please let the office know as soon as possible.
May 31, Celebration of Graduates: We’ll celebrate all those graduating this year from any level of education or any type of academic or technical program. Please let the office know if you or your children/grandchildren are graduating as we’d like to honor them if they are at one of our services and list their names in the service bulletin.

Service Opportunities
Serve on a St. Martin’s Committee: We need ONE MORE at-large member for the Budget & Finance Committee. Serving involves one hour per month, plus a small amount of time preparing for the meeting. We would train you to read our financial statements; no accounting experience is needed. We ask for a one-year commitment, with the option to serve longer.
We also need two at-large members to serve on a Selection Team to discern which charitable organizations will receive funding from special offerings and designated funds. This group, which also includes two Vestry members and two Social Justice and Outreach Committee members, will meet twice this summer and then likely two to three more times between now and next Easter. The team will help shape parish priorities around giving. If you are interested or have questions, contact Rev. Pamela or the church office.
STEAC Food Packing at St. Martin’s: In partnership with the Davis Joint Unified School District, STEAC provides weekend packs of non-perishable foods to school children who may be facing food insecurity. Help STEAC make up these food packs on the first Wednesday of the month in our parish hall. The next packing event is on Wednesday, May 6. Sign up directly with STEAC for the 8:30 – 10am or 10 – 11:30am shifts here.
