St. Martin’s is pleased to establish a memorial fund in honor of beloved St. Martin’s parishioner Dave Rhodes. Tim Williams, one of Dave’s close friends and St. Martin’s parishioner, provided the enthusiasm and was the driving force behind the establishment of this fund. In keeping with the purpose of a bequest Dave generously left for St. Martin’s, the Dave Rhodes Memorial Fund will be used or distributed for local mission and service work. While St. Martin’s Vestry will discern the specific process for use of the funds, the funds will be used to help those in need in our local community. We will be soliciting gifts to the fund during the month of August, although donations can be made at any time. If you wish to contribute, checks should be made out to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church with “Dave Rhodes Memorial Fund” in the memo line. Donations can be placed in the offering plate on Sundays, dropped off at the church office during the week, or mailed to the church at 640 Hawthorn Lane, Davis, CA 95616. For questions about the memorial fund, please contact Pamela or a Vestry member.
The Three Amigos was the brainchild of Dave Rhodes, with its mission to have fun while encouraging the congregation to increase donations for outreach program (usually centered around the Thanksgiving Basket drive). Dave asked Tim Williams and Brian Shontz to join him in challenging the congregation to increase their giving by 10-15%. The Three Amigos would give the congregation a choice from 2 or 3 silly stunts or skits that they would perform on a given Sunday if this goal was attained. Some of the silly activities actually completed were a hotdog eating contest, pies in the face, eating earth worms and singing with or without the choir (none of them could carry a note, though the choir was very welcoming the one time they joined!).
If you would like to know more about The Three Amigos and Dave’s passion for outreach programs, please feel free to contact Tim Williams or Brian Shontz.
