St. Martin’s News October 26, 2025

Here you can find weekly news and upcoming events at the Episcopal Church of St. Martin. Published 10/26/2025.
Fourth Sunday Día de Los Muertos and Stewardship Celebration
This Sunday, October 26 is a Fourth Sunday at 10am, meaning the service is a little shorter and more accessible to the youngest in our congregation. We are also celebrating Día de los Muertos. Our guest preacher will be the Rev. Dr. Portia Hopkins, chaplain of The Belfry. We’ll have a Pop-Up Choir, where anyone can come up and join the choir during the Offertory Anthem.
We have a traditional ofrenda (an altar) for Día de los Muertos. For the ofrenda, bring photos or mementos of loved ones who have passed away. The ofrenda will stay up through next Sunday, November 2, when we celebrate All Saints and All Souls. After the 10am service, enjoy a fiesta catered by Dos Coyotes and music by Mariachi UC Davis.
As mentioned in the Rector’s note above, this Sunday is our final Stewardship Sunday. We hope you will fill in a pledge card if you haven’t already. We have pledge cards in the narthex, if you need one, or email the office.
Names for All Saints’ Day Necrology
We celebrate All Saints’ Day next Sunday, November 2 at both services. We invite you to submit names of those who have passed away since November 1, 2024 to be included in our All Saints’ Day Necrology. We will read this list of departed loved ones at both All Saints’ Day services. Submit names by Wednesday, October 29 to the church office (530-756-0444; info@churchofstmartin.org).

Get Involved in Diocesan Leadership
Getting involved in Diocesan leadership can be rewarding as well as a benefit to St. Martin’s. Please consider putting in your name for Wingfield Deanery rep to the Board of Trustees or as a nominee for General Convention deputy (July 3-8, 2027 in Phoenix). For Deanery Rep, talk to Rev. Pamela to apply. For Deputy to General Convention, see details and application HERE. Deadline is October 31.
Music Notes
Our choir director, Dr. Suzanne Jubenville, writes music notes weekly. Please see this Sunday’s music notes here: https://churchofstmartin.org/music-at-st-martins/.
Do you want to sing with the choir for Lessons and Carols on December 14? The choir will sing choral anthems by indigenous North American composers. The music is challenging and interesting, and presents an additional layer of depth to our traditional Advent readings and hymns. Questions? Come to Thursday choir rehearsal at 7pm in the church, or contact Suzanne and Jeffrey (jubenvilles@churchofstmartin.org).
Diocesan Convention, Veterans Day, and Office Closures
Diocesan Convention takes place on Friday-Saturday, November 7-8 in Redding. Our clergy and six lay delegates will be attending. The church office will be closed on Friday, November 7 due to Convention and on Tuesday, November 11 for Veterans Day.
