Message from the Very Rev. Pamela from January 9, 2026:
Dear Ones,
Last Sunday, I promised to send out the Episcopal Church’s statement in response to the U.S. intervention in Venezuela. It is included in this week’s announcements, along with a link to an excellent article by the Episcopal New Service about how clergy and other leaders in our church are responding.
Sadly, a new horror has captured the nation’s attention in the last few days. The killing of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis has rightly caused outrage, grief, and bewilderment. We are also including a statement from Bishop Megan about this incident, which draws attention to the important response given by Minnesota Bishop Craig Loya.
Friends, I know this is exhausting. I know many of us feel paralyzed and even hopeless. Please do not give up hope, or give in to cynicism, or become numb to the tremendous suffering and injustice in the world today. The world needs the witness of radical faith, hope, and love that followers of Jesus have to offer. The world needs you—it needs us. And it needs us to be together, focused on the good we can do.
You’ll note that we have shared information about an upcoming Interfaith Vigil in Sacramento. I have also received news of a Nonviolent Civil Resistance Training coming up on Monday, January 12 from 4 to 6pm (click HERE to register) and been reminded of the Episcopal Protest Handbook, a useful resource. I would urge all of us to make our voices heard, and also to be sure that we are trained and equipped for this work, so that we can be effective advocates for justice and peace.
I hope to see many of you this Sunday at the Epiphany Evening Prayer service and bonfire. Being nourished by connection, community, and worship (not to mention s’mores!) is what makes ongoing witness and peaceful resistance possible.
