St. Martin’s News for the Week of Sunday, 5/24/2026

This Sunday – Pentecost Sunday! One 10am Service and Barbecue
One Service at 10am: On Sunday, we’ll all worship together at one 10am service. This is our last Fourth Sunday service until Fall. Fourth Sunday services are a little shorter than usual and more accessible to the youngest in our congregation. We have a Pop-Up Choir, and all are invited to come up and sing the anthem (see Music Notes below). We’re excited to have readers in a variety of world languages for the Acts of the Apostles reading and thank those participating. Remember to wear red to symbolize the Holy Spirit, if possible! Please note that there is no Godly Play this Sunday, but Godly Play will meet on May 31 and June 7.

Music Notes for 10am Service: Sunday’s organ music features “Pièces d’orgue pour le Magnificat” by the French composer J. A. Guilain (c. 1680-c. 1739). The Prelude compares this work with “Le Banquet Céleste,” by the twentieth-century French mystic Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992). Though very different in period and style, both works explore the organ’s ability to create atmosphere through color and resonance. Our Pop-Up Choir will wake you up during the service with a rousing anthem to the Holy Spirit! Come any one of any age and join us at the Offertory to make a joyful noise. Barbecue after 10am Service: Stay after the service for an all-parish BBQ with meat and vegan options along with salads, fruit, and dessert hosted by St. Martin’s Buildings and Grounds Committee. Join the fun and connect with your parish family! We’ll have soccer for kids on the great lawn.

Concerts at St. Martin’s This Weekend
This weekend, we are hosting two of the Mellon Music Festival concerts, Friday, May 22 and Sunday, May 24, both at 7:30pm: The Friday concert includes a program of Bach, Say, and Beethoven. The Sunday concert features pieces by Jean-Marie Leclair, Frank Bridge, Giovanni Sollima, and Johannes Brahms. $20 per concert. Free admission for students at all levels and children under 18. Next Sunday, Celebration of Graduates
On Sunday, May 31, we’ll celebrate all those graduating this year from any level of education or any type of academic or technical program. Please let the office know by Tuesday, May 26 if you or your children/grandchildren are graduating as we’d love to list their names in the service bulletin. May 31 is also the last Sunday of our Sanctuary Choir until fall, so we’ll be thanking our choir. We’ll also recognize and thank our Godly Play teachers!

Pride Events – Save the Dates!
June 6, St. Martin’s Booth at Davis Pride: June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month. St. Martin’s will have a booth at Davis Pride on Saturday, June 6 at Civic Center Park. If you’d like to help staff our booth anytime from 4 – 9pm, please let the office know.

June 14, PRIDE Eucharist and Chalking of the Parking Lot and Sidewalks: On June 14, we’ll have special prayers and reflections and, right after the 10am service, chalking of the sidewalks and parking lot.

In Loving Memory Memorial Service for Willard Blankenship, Friday, May 29, 11am
All are invited to attend a memorial service for Willard Blankenship on Friday, May 29 at 11am with a reception immediately following in parish hall. Willard died this past March and was a member of St. Martin’s first Vestry. Some of you may know Willard’s daughter and son, Melissa Collier and Rob Blankenship, and their families. Loving God, we pray to you for Willard and for those we love but see no longer. Grant them your peace and let light perpetual shine upon them. Amen.

Rector’s Office Hours
Rev. Pamela’s next office hours will be on Tuesday, May 26 from 4 – 5:15pm. She will be on vacation June 2 and June 9, so her office hours will resume on June 16. To see Rev. Pamela at a different time, email her or the church office to schedule a time.

Church Office Closure
The Church Office will be closed on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day!
