Pride Eucharist and Youth Liturgy of the Word – Sunday Morning, June 14
PRIDE Eucharist, Painting Crosswalks, Chalking the Walkways: June is Pride Month! This Sunday, at 10am, we’ll have a Pride Eucharist with special music, prayers, and reflections. Right after the 10am service, we will chalk the walkways and spray paint parking lot crosswalks. If you want to help spray paint, meet right after the service at the parking lot entrance on Hawthorn; we will provide masks and gloves. If you want to chalk the walkways, meet under the narthex wooden overhang to find out which areas we’re going to chalk.
The parking lot Hawthorn exit will be blocked off at about 10:30am. If you drive and park in our lot, please exit the parking lot through the back section, across the city easement and through the medical center parking lot onto Anderson Rd.
Youth Liturgy of the Word: Youth LoW meets in Room 8 at 10am for the last time this program year. Junior high and high school youth join Rev. Debbie to talk about what the Gospel reading is saying to them. Both Youth LoW and Godly Play will resume in September.
Music Notes for 10am Service: On Sunday, Jeffrey continues his Pentecost series on the Passacaglia with a Prelude by Johann Kerll (1627-1693). The Postlude, “Metamorphosis #3,” by Phillip Glass (b. 1937), starts with the same progression as Kerll’s passacaglia, but breaks off into a meditative, almost hypnotic pattern of subtle shifts in harmony and rhythm that lead Jeffrey naturally into Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” chosen in celebration of Pride Sunday. The Summer Sunday Choir will sing “When Shall We Learn,” a hymn set to a tune by Carl Flentge Schalk (1929-2021—a relative of our own Alessa Johns!). The text, by W. H. Auden, subtly addresses the poet’s struggles with his own sexuality, while commenting in general on the nature and obligations of love and forgiveness. Our Communion hymn “How Could Anyone?” was composed by Libby Roderick in 1988. The song is beloved within LGBTQ+ circles because of its message of unconditional worth and affirmation. This Sunday! Taize Sunday Evening Worship, 6:30pm
Come and experience our first Taize Sunday evening service! Join us once a month in June, July, and August for a Taize worship experience. The first service is this Sunday evening, June 14 at 6:30pm in the Narthex. Taize worship focuses on praying through song and silence. Each service is about 30 minutes long. Come in silence, choose your seat, and participate as you feel comfortable.
Happening Soon – Save the Dates!June 21, Bible Study on Abraham and Sarah: Join Diane Bamforth and others after the 10am service for a time of learning and reflection. Our lectionary this summer includes several weeks of selections from the Book of Genesis that focus on Abraham, Sarah, and those who came after them; don’t miss this chance to ponder these ancient stories anew! Meet in Room 6/7.
June 28, A Place at the Table Potluck Dinner, 5pm: The potluck is co-hosted by Colette Chabbott and Pamela Neilson at Colette’s house in Davis, with space for five more guests. Children welcome, as long as they’d be happy in a small yard. RSVP to the office.
July 5, 12, 19, 26 – One 10AM Service: We’ll have ONE service at 10am during the four Sundays in July. Let’s enjoy worshipping all together for July. We’ll return to our schedule of two Sunday services on August 2.

Registration Open! Vacation Bible Camp in Davis, July 20-24: St. Martin’s is participating in Vacation Bible Camp at Davis Community Church. Children (grades K-6) and youth (grades 7-12) are welcome from July 20-24, 9am to 3pm each day. Cost is $150 for K-6th grade and $50 for 7-12th grade. Register kids here (select traveling day camp). Davis Progressive Youth Collective Movie Night, Friday, June 19, 6:30-8:30pm: DPYC is a joint program of Davis Lutheran, Davis United Methodist, Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, and St. Martin’s. Students in grades 6 – 12 are invited to Davis United Methodist Church (1620 Anderson Road) to watch the movie “Goonies.” Popcorn and drinks will be provided. The event is free.
Learn and Connect with the Broader Community
NO KINGS Watch Party, June 14, 4-6pm: Indivisible Yolo will hold a watch party in Davis from 4-6pm at Dunloe Brewing, 1606 Olive Dr in Davis. They will virtually join the “Rise Up, Sing Out Concert for the First Amendment,” hosted by Jane Fonda in New York City. Get more information.
Davis Interfaith Association (DIA) – Hate Free Together Yolo, June 15: DIA will hold a community event featuring a presentation from Hate Free Together Yolo, a coalition of organizations in Yolo County that condemn hate, create safety, and cultivate change. They will be sharing information and ideas on June 15 from 6:30 to 8pm at University Covenant Church, 315 Mace Blvd. in Davis. Dinner will be served courtesy of UCC. Get more Information.
Hands-On Service Opportunities
Become a Saturday St. Martin’s Representative at the DCMH Meal: We need one more Saturday St. Martin’s Representative at the meals. St. Martin’s Reps serve one time a month from 11am to 1pm on a Saturday. Let the office know if you can help.
Support Our Immigrant Neighbors – Help YIIN on June 20 in Knights Landing: Volunteer at an automobile light repair and community table event hosted by the Yolo Interfaith Immigration Network, NorCal Resist, and the Yolo Diaper Bank on Saturday, June 20, from 10am to 12pm in Knights Landing. Help is needed with the auto light repair (NorCal Resist offers on-site training for that work) and the community tables (distributing free food and diapers). Location: 9368 Locust St, Knights Landing (corner of Locust and Hwy 113).
Food Delivery to Farmworkers in Woodland and Dunnigan: YIIN needs volunteers to deliver food to farmworkers who are unable to or fearful of going to food distribution centers. Volunteers gather every other Friday at Woodland Community College at 7:30am to pick up food and deliver it in Woodland or Dunnigan. Work is complete by 10 or 11am. Questions? Talk to Colette Chabbott or contact the office. Next distribution: June 19.
St. Martin’s Weekly Food Collection: “Every person. Every week. One item of food,” is the motto of the Jerry Hulbert Weekly Food Collection. Bring a nonperishable food item to church on Sunday and place it in the basket in the narthex. Sunday’s collection goes to CA House Multifaith Living Community.
