Happening at Church This Sunday, May 17
Music Notes for 10am Service: On this Sunday after the Ascension, our music reflects the Church’s life in the transition between Christ’s departure and the coming of the Holy Spirit. Jeffrey’s Prelude, a ricercar by Pachelbel, begins with an ascending chromatic motif, which reverses and descends, symbolizing the Ascension of Christ and the descent of the Holy Spirit. The Offertory anthem, “If Ye Love Me” was composed by Thomas Tallis during the English Reformation. Find the full music notes here.
“Knowing Jesus in a New Way” Bible Study after 10am Service: In an adult forum, Diane Bamforth will lead us as we explore the shape and purpose of the various Easter season stories using a Godly Play format. Over the summer, we’ll have additional sessions in this series, including June 21 “The Great Family,” July 12 “The Parable of the Sower,” and August 16 “The Story of Joseph.” Grab your coffee and a snack and meet in Room 6/7.
Rev. Pamela at Conference This Past Week: Rev. Pamela was at a “Creators for Creation” conference this past week. This year, BioLogos is focusing on the “Creators for Creation” cohort, a program mentoring Christian content creators to blend faith with creation care for online audiences. Key figures include Dr. Katharine Hayhoe and Francis Collins, who mentor creators on connecting biblical faith with environmental stewardship and modern science. This Sunday she is away preaching and teaching at Grace, St. Helena, one of the churches in our deanery.
Concert This Sunday Afternoon! Sinfonia Spirituosa, 4pm: Sinfonia Spirituosa will share the stage with dancers from the Sacramento Ballet, dancing to Jean-Philippe Rameau’s lyric tragedy, Dardanus. Tickets: $30 general; $20 St. Martin’s congregants; $10 students. Find information and tickets here.
Last Chance to RSVP for A Place at the Table Potluck! Saturday, May 23, 5:30pm
Our next A Place at the Table potluck will be on Saturday, May 23, at 5:30pm at Charlie and Diane Bamforth’s home. The hosts are the Bamforths along with Craig and Carla Harris. They have space for 8 guests. Please let the office know by May 18 if you would like to attend. We are also seeking hosts for June, July, and beyond. As a host, you decide the time, date, and number of guests. Let the office know if you’re interested in hosting.

The current issue of St. Martin’s magazine Reflections (Issue No. 3, May 2026) is now available! The Day of Pentecost, Next Sunday, May 24
We’ll have ONE SERVICE only at 10am on Pentecost. It will be a Fourth Sunday service (meaning the service will be more accessible to the youngest in our congregation), and we’ll have readers in world languages. Remember to wear red to symbolize the Holy Spirit, if possible! After the service, we’ll have an all-parish BBQ with meat and vegan options along with salads and fruit, hosted by St. Martin’s Buildings and Grounds Committee. We’ll have soccer for kids of all ages on the great lawn. Join the fun and connect with your parish family!
Diocesan and Interfaith Opportunities to Learn and Connect
Davis Interfaith Association (DIA) Meeting, May 21, 12pm: All are invited to the May meeting of DIA hosted by Rev. Angeline Jackson at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis, 27074 Patwin Road. Lunch will be provided by members of the Uniting Racial and Social Justice Committee, and a tour of the grounds will be included. Click for more information.
Tour of “Uprooted” at California Museum, June 6, 10am-12pm: Join Episcopalians from the Diocese of Northern California to tour “Uprooted,” the California Museum exhibit about Japanese Americans during WWII. The tour will be led by docent Steve Sasaki, the guide for the recent Tule Lake pilgrimage. The museum is located at 1020 O Street in Sacramento. Register here. Your place will be finalized when you send a check for $10 per person to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 2351 Pleasant Grove Blvd, Roseville, CA 95747, with “Uprooted” in the memo line. Deadline for receipt of check: May 26.

On May 31, we’ll celebrate all those graduating from any level of education or any type of academic or technical program. Please let the office know if you or a loved one is graduating as we’d love to list their names in the service bulletin and say special prayers for them.
