Pancake Breakfast This Sunday, February 15
The Shrove Sunday Pancake Breakfast is back! Come to the parish hall between services on Sunday for a plentiful, home-cooked pancake breakfast. The breakfast is a fundraiser hosted by the Social Justice & Outreach (SJ&O) Committee with assistance from our youth. A freewill donation will be taken at the event, with proceeds going to a nonprofit organization to be recommended to Vestry by SJ&O and the youth. You can also mail us a check (with Pancake Breakfast in the memo line) or use the online GIVE button on our website. The fair market value of the breakfast ($6) will not be tax deductible. We hope you’ll join us with a hungry appetite and a generous spirit.
Music Notes for 10am Service on Sunday, February 15
The Sanctuary Choir will sing “And the glory of the Lord,” the opening chorus from the oratorio “Messiah,” by G. F. Handel (1685-1759). On this final Sunday of Epiphany, the chorus underlines the season’s theme of Christ fully revealed in radiance and power, and offers a response to our Gospel reading. Lent Worship, Fellowship, and Formation
Living Well Through Lent Online Reflection Group: Join Helen Campbell on Mondays during Lent from 2-3:30pm on Zoom. With the theme “Cultivating Healing and Wellness,” the group will meet starting on Ash Wednesday, and then weekly on Mondays. We have booklets in the narthex. Please sign up with the church office. Tuesday evening book study of Richard Rohr’s The Tears of Things: Prophetic Wisdom for an Age of Outrage: Join Rev. Pamela for this book study on Tuesdays at 6:30pm in the church library. Please let Pamela or the office know if you’re interested, so we can make sure we have enough space. We’re considering an online option, so let us know if that would work better for you. Candlelight Prayer Vigils in Lent and Beyond: As we move into Lent, we remember our brokenness as well as God’s call to let our light shine. In this spirit, there will be a series of candlelight prayer vigils at Davis churches on the third Sunday of the month at 7pm. Sunday night, February 15, the vigil is at Davis Lutheran Church, March 15 at Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, and April 19 at St. Martin’s.
Exploring St. Brigid & Celtic Spirituality, Sunday, February 22: Join Rev. Pamela after the 10am service to talk about the “other” Irish saint (Patrick’s day is coming soon!) and what we can learn about caring for the earth and growing closer to God from the Celtic tradition.
Wednesday Night Soup Suppers: We partner with other area churches for Wednesday night Soup Suppers and Evening Prayer. This Lent, we’ll meet at Lutheran Church of the Incarnation. Supper starts at 6pm, with the Vespers service starting at 6:45pm and lasting about 30 minutes. We’ll have signups starting next week for soup and bread contributions. Suppers begin February 25 and continue on all Wednesdays in March.
Time of Remembrance Event in Davis, Thursday, February 19
“The Time of Remembrance” marks February 19, 1942, when President Roosevelt issued the executive order leading to the incarceration of over 120,000 people of Japanese descent during World War II. The Davis Asians for Racial Equality present excerpts from Rachel Maddow’s Burn Order and a showing of the film Kintsukuroi on Thursday, February 19 at 4:15pm at the Veterans Memorial. Free.
Contribute to Our Weekly Food Collection
“Every person. Every week. One item of food.” This is the motto of the non-perishable food collection in the narthex, recently renamed the Jerry Hulbert Food Collection. This week’s food goes to Dixon Family Services and next week’s to The Pantry at UC Davis. Protein, such as canned tuna and chicken, is particularly needed. Want to do more? Contact the church office for ways to help DCMH and STEAC with their many programs that serve those in our community who are food insecure.
Rector’s Office Hours
Rev. Pamela’s next office hours will be on Tuesday, February 17 from 4-5:15pm in the church library. If you would like to see Pamela at a different time, email Pamela or the church office.
Church Office Closure
The Church Office will be closed on Monday, February 16 for Presidents’ Day.
We will return to our regular hours, weekdays 9am-1pm, on February 17.

During this season, Jeffrey will be focusing on the music of Dan Locklair (b. 1949), an American composer widely known for his sacred choral and organ music.
