Preaching, Godly Play, Summer Choir on June 7
Seminarian Anthony Amato Preaching: On Sunday, we welcome our seminarian, Anthony Amato, as our preacher at both services. Anthony just completed his second year of seminary at Virginia Theological Seminary and is home for the summer.
Last Godly Play Session until September: Godly Play meets in Room 4 for the last time this program year and will take a break until September. Children are always welcome in church!
Music Notes for 10am Service: Jeffrey’s music selections currently feature the passacaglia, a solemn and stately musical form based on a triple rhythm dance (like a modern waltz) and built on a repeating (“ground”) bass line or harmonic pattern, over which continuous variations are developed in multiple “voices” or independent melodic lines. Today’s passacaglia by Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) reduces the variations to two voices, so that the performer maintains a musical duality with both hands over a repeated ostinato on the pedal board. Our Offertory anthem will be sung by the Summer Sunday Choir, an ad hoc group that meets at 9:15am on Sunday mornings to learn an easy anthem for the service. Next Week, June 14 – Pride Eucharist, Spray Painting the Parking Lot, and Chalking the Sidewalks
As part of our Pride Month activities, on June 14 we’ll have a Pride Eucharist at 10am with special music, prayers, and reflections. Right after the 10am service, we’ll chalk the sidewalks and spray paint parking lot crosswalks. If you want to help spray paint, wear appropriate clothes for painting; we will provide masks and gloves.
New Taize Sunday Evening Worship in the Summer Months
This summer, we are offering a new way to worship! Come join us once a month in June, July, and August for a Taize worship experience. Taize worship focuses on praying through song and silence. Each service is about 30 minutes long. Come in silence, choose your seat, and participate as you feel comfortable. The first service is next Sunday, June 14 at 6:30pm in the Narthex.
Davis Interfaith Association (DIA) – Hate Free Together Yolo, June 15
DIA will hold a community event featuring a presentation from Hate Free Together Yolo, a coalition of organizations in Yolo County that condemn hate, create safety, and cultivate change. They will be sharing information and ideas on June 15 from 6:30 to 8pm at University Covenant Church, 315 Mace Blvd. in Davis. Dinner will be served courtesy of UCC. Service Opportunities
Become a Saturday St. Martin’s Representative at the DCMH Meal: We are seeking one more Saturday St. Martin’s Representative at the Davis Community Meals and Housing meal. St. Martin’s Reps serve one time a month from 11am to 1pm on a Saturday and, with the cook and other meals volunteers, assist as needed in serving the meal and making sure lock up and clean up are completed. If you could be another set of hands on this team, we would show you the ropes and work with your schedule. Please let the office know if you can help.
Support Our Immigrant Neighbors – Help YIIN on June 20 in Knights Landing: This event is an auto light repair and community table event hosted by the Yolo Interfaith Immigration Network, NorCal Resist, and the Yolo Diaper Bank on Saturday, June 20, from 10am to 12pm in Knights Landing. The auto light repair service addresses the problem of vehicle stops that are sometimes used as a pretext to detain immigrants. The community table offers free food, household items, and diapers. Help is needed with the auto light repair (NorCal Resist offers on-site training for that work) and the community tables. St. Martin’s association with YIIN dates back to the inception of the organization. Location: 9368 Locust St, Knights Landing (corner of Locust and Hwy 113).
In Loving Memory
With sadness, we inform you of the death of Dianne Johnson. Dianne was a long-time parishioner at St. Martin’s until she moved away a few years ago. A burial will take place this coming Monday, June 8 at 12pm at Davis Cemetery. The family invites all who knew Dianne to attend. God of all, we pray to you for Dianne and for those we love but see no longer. Grant them your peace; let light perpetual shine upon them.

St. Martin’s is pleased to host this group of talented musicians as they present their final concert in the 2025-26 series. The June 6 program features Beethoven, Schulhoff, Stravinsky, and Korngold.
