A Message from the Rev. Pamela

Dear Ones,

It looks like we’ll have great weather for the Fearless Faith Revival tomorrow, and I hope to see a lot of you there. I’ll mostly be hanging out at the Seasons of Courage exhibit and I’ll be part of the Creation Care procession during the worship service. I know or have heard all the special guests who are leading workshops and I think we’re in for a treat with every one of them. The themes of evangelism, creation care, and racial justice and reconciliation have been front and center throughout the tenure of our beloved Presiding Bishop, Michael Curry, whose nine years in that role is coming to an end this summer.

A Revival may not feel like a very “Episcopalian” event, but it does serve the important purpose of bringing people together from around our very far-flung Diocese. It is helpful to be reminded from time to time that a parish is a local expression of a much larger church—what Presiding Bishop Curry likes to call “the Episcopal branch of the Jesus movement.”

In a few weeks we will be celebrating Pentecost, which is an annual reminder of our connection to the larger church, in this case not just the Episcopal Church but the Church universal, the Church as the body of Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit. Perhaps during these waning days of the Easter season we can spend some time praying about what it means to be part of this Jesus movement, and specifically what a gift it is to be part of a church that asks us to seek and serve Christ in all persons and to respect the dignity of every human being. I see us doing this work at St. Martin’s day in and day out, and it brings me great joy.

Easter blessings,

Pamela+
