Message from the Rev. Pamela from November 10, 2024:
Dear Ones,
It has been a long week. A lot of clergy have been sharing post-election messages, including our new Presiding Bishop and Bishop Megan. I am grateful for those who have expressed words of hope and encouragement, especially those who are reaching out to the most vulnerable among us.
To be honest, though, what I have found most helpful in these last few days has been gathering with members of our community. I was truly touched by how many people showed up at Morning Prayer on Wednesday, and again at Evening Prayer and our candlelight labyrinth walk. Sometimes being together with people who care is the very best medicine.
In that spirit, I am going to try something different at church on Sunday. At both services, in place of a sermon, I will be sharing a short reflection and then asking us to engage in conversation with each other. It won’t be a long, involved exercise. I’ll offer some guidelines, taken from resources put out by LivingRoomConversations.org, and then we’ll break into small groups and take turns answering one of the following questions:
● What are your hopes and concerns for your family and/or community?
● What sense of purpose or mission guides you in your life?
Anyone should feel completely free to opt out—no pressure and no judgment! You might not feel entirely ready to share your feelings with others right now, or you might prefer to process things a different way. That’s totally fine. You’ll just use those few minutes in a way that works better for you, maybe to write down some of your thoughts or even stretch your legs.
My hope is that those who do participate in the conversation circles will find it a healing and hopeful experience simply to connect at a human level with others who are walking the Way of Love as best they can.
Tomorrow I’ll be involved in Diocesan Convention most of the day, but I’ll do my best to check my email in the afternoon in case you have questions about Sunday that I can answer in advance.
With love and blessings,
Pamela+
