St. Martin’s News

St. Martin’s News: 4/25/2025

Here you can find weekly news and upcoming events at the Episcopal Church of St. Martin’s. This changes every week.

This Sunday! Honoring Earth Day
This Sunday, in honor of Earth Day, we will be celebrating all of God’s creation. Rev. Pamela will preach on creation and creation care, and we will be honoring creation in our Prayers of the People. St. Martin’s is a carbon neutral church. We are also available to help other churches move toward becoming carbon neutral. On Rogation Sunday at the end of May, we’ll be encouraging as many as are able to bike to church.

Thanks for Your Generosity
Thank you for your generosity in giving to the Good Friday and Easter Offerings. The Easter Offering amounted to $5,018 and will go to the Social Justice and Outreach Committee. The Good Friday Offering for the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East was $1,007. We also raised $1,861 for Children’s Formation via the Easter Memorial donations. We are also grateful for all those who made Holy Week and Easter services possible through their generous gifts of time and talent.

St. Martin’s Teams Up for Woods to Waves Hike-a-thon
On Saturday May 10, St. Dorothy’s Rest in Sonoma County is holding its annual Woods to Waves hike-a-thon. We invite you to join St. Martin’s team for this 12-mile hike from St. Dorothy’s Rest to the Pacific Ocean. All funds raised support St. Dorothy’s Hospital Camp programs and provide camp scholarships for underserved and foster youth in the Bay Area. To join our team, go to this link and use “The Episcopal Church of St. Martin” as your parish/team affiliation. Don’t let the $50 registration cost stop you; reach out to clergy if you need financial assistance. If you join the team, please also email communications@churchofstmartin.org so we know who is going!

Newcomers’ Brunch, Sunday, May 18
The Vestry is pleased to host a brunch for newcomers in Room 6/7 and on the patio near the redwoods after the 10am service on May 18. Who is a newcomer? Really, anyone who feels like they want to get to know more people or get more involved at St. Martin’s! It doesn’t matter if you have only been here once or if you’ve been worshiping with us for several months, we’d love to share a simple meal together and get to know you better. RSVP to the church office (info@churchofstmartin.org) and let us know how many will be attending and if you have any dietary restrictions.

Volunteer for St. Martin’s at a Meal Sponsored by DCMH
Looking for hands-on service? St. Martin’s has signed up as the volunteer group for three upcoming meals in our own parish hall sponsored by Davis Community Meals and Housing (DCMH). We are seeking volunteers for Tuesday, May 20 from 4:30pm to 7pm. There are also two Saturday morning meals on June 14 and July 5, from 9am to 1pm. Please RSVP to the church office, telling us at which meal(s) you’d like to volunteer, and we’ll send more information about what’s involved.

Adults and Teens: Join the Fun at our Vacation Bible Camp
St. Martin’s is teaming up with other churches in Davis to hold a super fun Vacation Bible Camp from June 16-20. We still need some volunteers for a variety of positions. You can help for one day or for up to five; there are leader positions, which require training, and more supportive, “behind the scenes” positions. Please contact the church office if you’re interested and we’ll get you more information. Also, it’s not too late to sign up campers! There are morning sessions on creation care, including fun water activities and a petting zoo (!), while the afternoon sessions are all about musical theater. Contact the office or see our website for more information here.

Rector’s Office Hours
Rev. Pamela will be away for a week starting April 29. Her next open office hours will be on Monday, May 12, from 3-4:30pm. Her Monday office hours are first-come, first-served, so sometimes you may have to wait to speak with her. If you’d like to meet with Rev. Pamela at a different time, you can email her (pamela@churchofstmartin.org) or the church office (info@churchofstmartin.org).
